Limitations On Our Services
The Center for Student Legal Services cannot represent students in Ohio University Judiciary hearings. Ohio University Judiciaries handles violations of the student code of conduct, not violations of city, state or federal laws. We are able to give limited advice about Judiciary matters.Pursuant to state law, The Center for Student Legal Services may not represent a student in Ohio University Judiciary actions, internal OU matters, or lawsuits against Ohio University or its employees. (see Ohio Revised Code Section 3345.022)
Student Legal Services cannot represent one student against another student in a civil suit or in a criminal case where one student is the “victim”.
Furthermore, we may provide only limited advice in certain areas of law. These areas include, but are not limited to:

Personal injury or malpractice claims

Felonies
-
Immigration
-
Estate and probate matters/complex wills and trusts

Taxes
-
Business/real estate matters

Bankruptcies
-
Establishing copyrights and patents
-
Domestic relations, including, but not limited to: prenuptial agreements, divorces, dissolutions, custody or support

Other matters which may unduly monopolize program resources to the disadvantage of other students.
Legal representation is limited to Athens County Ohio courts.
